Acne Scars
Want to know more about acne scars?
What is acne?
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition of the sebaceous glands that occurs when excess oil and dead skin cells get trapped beneath the surface of the skin. Bacteria that are normally found on the surface of the skin multiplies rapidly within blocked follicles, causing the skin to become red and inflamed. Acne can cause several types of blemishes, including pustules (pimples), papules (bumps), whiteheads, blackheads, and cysts. Persistent acne should always be treated to prevent the development or worsening of secondary, harder-to-treat conditions like acne scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
What are Acne Scars?
Acne Scars are the result of deep tissue damage caused by inflammatory acne. The majority of Acne Scars are caused by recurrent outbreaks that don’t allow the skin to heal completely between episodes. Persistent damage and inflammation interfere with the body’s normal healing process and lead to the formation of fibrous scar tissue.
Acne scarring can take a significant toll on a person’s self-esteem, especially since the condition is unlikely to improve on its own. As we age, the collagen in our skin naturally diminishes, often making old Acne Scars more apparent over time.
